Rum And Roti, the staple of any true islander’s diet.
One of London’s most popular Caribbean pop-ups is opening a permanent location on Kingsland Road in Dalston.
Marie Mitchell and Joseph Pilgrim, the team behind, Island Social Club, will be combing the two pop-up shops which put them on the map, Roti Shop and Rum Shop.
With a grand total of zero rum shops in London (compared with the 200+ in Barbados), the demand for a homely Caribbean spot is certainly there.
Roti skins — the cornerstone of the menu at the club — will be made in-house and served with curries: curries which “touch on the varied and nuanced food of the Caribbean.”
For drinks, guests will get to enjoy the same menu which made Rum Shop so popular. We hear that the rum punch, which takes over a month to make is the winner by a country mile.
Island Social Club is open from Wednesday 13th February and you can find it here: 258 Kingsland Rd, London E8 4DG. Get fifty percent off food on the 7th February 2019.
